Best Subnautica Server Hosting UK (Nov 2026)
Subnautica was built as a single-player game, but the free Nitrox mod turns it into co-op, with friends sharing one alien ocean, one set of bases and one story. A hosted Nitrox server keeps that world online when the host logs off. We compared 5 hosts that sell a Subnautica server on regular monthly price, UK locations, memory, backups and refunds.
Quick verdict: Kinetic Hosting is our #1: London and 4GB for £3.75/mo ($4.99), far more than a Nitrox server needs. Physgun sizes its plans by group from £4.13/mo ($5.49) with 30GB of backups, and Shockbyte starts at £3.75/mo ($4.99) for four players with a 72-hour refund.

How we compared Subnautica server hosts
We compared each host’s live Subnautica product on what matters for a Nitrox co-op world: a London or nearby location, enough memory for your group, Nitrox setup, backups, refund terms and the regular price. Hosts without a live, priced Subnautica product were left out. Prices come from each host’s public plan page, converted at £1 = $1.33. Our full process is on how we compare.
The 5 best Subnautica server hosts, reviewed
Each review covers the plan that suits a Subnautica group, what it costs and the detail that decides whether it fits your server.
Kinetic Hosting
Kinetic Hosting sells Subnautica with 4GB for £3.75/mo ($4.99) and 8GB for £6.01/mo ($7.99) a month. 4GB is far more than a Nitrox server needs for a group of friends, so the entry plan leaves plenty of room for a long save with many bases.
There are no player caps, five backup slots and scheduled tasks for restarts and backups, and the server can be split or swapped to another game later. London is one of its locations, and refunds are available within seven days of payment.
Support, billing and the control panel are covered in our full Kinetic Hosting review.

There are no slot fees, 30GB of secure backups is included and a three-day money-back guarantee applies. Servers run in London and Chicago, and the server can switch to more than 500 other games from the panel.

How Subnautica multiplayer works with Nitrox
Subnautica has no official multiplayer. Nitrox is a free, open-source mod that adds it: one player hosts a Nitrox server, and everyone else joins through the Nitrox launcher on their own PC. Every player needs their own copy of Subnautica and the same Nitrox version as the server.
Hosting from your own PC works, but the world is only online while you are. A hosted server keeps the save in one place, so anyone in the group can dive in, build and carry on the story whenever they like. Three things decide how much server you need:
- Players. Each player adds movement, vehicles and inventories to keep in sync.
- Bases. Large bases with many rooms, lockers and machines add up over a long save.
- Creatures and vehicles. Seamoths, the Cyclops and fauna near players all have to be tracked.
How much RAM does a Subnautica server need?
A Nitrox server is light. Size it by group and save:
| Group | Players | Sensible RAM |
|---|---|---|
| Two or three friends | 2–3 | 1–2GB |
| Small group with several bases | 4–6 | 2–4GB |
| Larger group or a long save with many bases | 6–12+ | 4–6GB |
The hosts’ own tiers agree: Shockbyte puts four players on 1GB and 16 on 2GB, while Physgun suggests 2GB for two or three friends, 4GB for up to six and 6GB for a dozen with many bases. CPU speed matters more than raw memory once your bases grow. Our hardware requirements guide explains how CPU, RAM and network trade off.
The settings every Nitrox server owner should know
Most hosts here put these in a panel, but these are the pieces behind them:
| File or setting | What it controls | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| server.cfg | Server name, port, password, admin password, game mode and save interval | The core of how your server runs |
| Save folder | The shared world: bases, inventories, story progress | Back it up before updating Nitrox |
| Port 11000 (UDP) | The default Nitrox port | Friends need it to connect directly |
| Admin password | Unlocks server commands in the chat | Lets you kick players, save and change settings |
Set a server password if you only want friends to join, and keep the admin password to yourself. Lower the save interval if your group plays in short sessions, so nobody loses progress if the server restarts.
How friends join a Nitrox server
Each player installs the Nitrox launcher, points it at their Subnautica install and starts the game through it. In the multiplayer menu they add your server’s address and port, then join. Nitrox works with the Steam, Epic Games and Microsoft Store versions of the game.
The most common problem is a version mismatch. Nitrox updates break compatibility between versions, so the server and every player must run the same Nitrox release. Back up the save before updating, then update the server and tell your group to update the launcher at the same time.
What co-op Subnautica is like
With Nitrox, the whole group shares the same ocean, story and progress. You can split up to scan new creatures, gather resources and build bases in different biomes, then meet up in the Cyclops for a deep dive. Blueprints, the storyline and the state of the world are shared, so one player’s discovery helps everyone.
Nitrox is a community mod, so some features behave differently from single-player and occasional bugs are part of the deal. That is the main reason backups matter: Physgun includes 30GB of secure backups, Kinetic Hosting keeps five backup slots and PingPerfect backs up nightly.
Subnautica hosts with UK servers
4 of the 5 hosts show a London or UK location for Subnautica:
| Host | UK location | Entry price |
|---|---|---|
| Kinetic Hosting | ✓ London | £3.75/mo ($4.99) |
| Physgun | ✓ London | £4.13/mo ($5.49) |
| PingPerfect | ✓ London | £12.27/mo ($16.32) |
| Gaming Deluxe | ✓ London | £5.00/mo ($6.65) |
A nearby server keeps vehicles, doors and creatures in sync for a British group. Shockbyte sets the location at checkout, so pick London or a nearby European option if most of your players are here.

Self-hosting vs renting a Subnautica server
Nitrox is free, and any player can host a server from their own PC. Running it at home means opening UDP port 11000, keeping the PC on whenever anyone wants to play and updating Nitrox for the whole group after every release.
| Self-host | Rented server | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free mod; you pay for power and bandwidth | From £3.75/mo ($4.99) |
| Setup | Install Nitrox, configs and port forwarding | Set up for you |
| Updates | Update the server with every Nitrox release | Handled in the panel |
| Uptime | Only while your PC is on | Online 24/7 |
| Security | Your home IP is shared with every player | Host’s network and DDoS protection |
Our self-hosting guide and guide to dedicated hosting cover the trade-offs.
