🔥 Update 1.6 — Kolguyev, Operation Omega, Conflict HQC (October 2025)

Arma Reforger’s biggest update yet adds the volcanic Kolguyev map, the Operation Omega singleplayer campaign, and a complete Conflict HQC rework where a Commander role manages AI logistics and builds bases anywhere on the island. New weapons: RPG-22, RPG-75, hand flares. Server hardware tip: Kolguyev’s dense AI logistics + HQC base construction is notably more CPU-intensive than vanilla Everon Conflict — plan your plan tier accordingly.

Oct 2025

Arma Reforger is Bohemia Interactive’s bridge to Arma 4 — built from scratch on the Enfusion engine with native crossplay between PC and Xbox, proper dedicated server support from day one, and a mod ecosystem that’s already producing serious total-conversion content. But the Enfusion engine’s AI-heavy game modes (Game Master with 200+ AI units, HQC logistics networks) demand more from server hardware than most mil-sim titles. Getting the wrong provider means laggy vehicles, AI that rubber-bands across Everon and sessions that crash during Conflict’s peak. Choosing from the best game server hosting UK providers matters more here than it does for lighter games. This guide focuses specifically on UK players — London node latency, GBP pricing and hardware specs that actually handle Reforger’s demands.

🪖 Why Arma Reforger hosting is more demanding than most mil-sim games
AI density is the primary driver

Unlike pure PvP games, Reforger’s most popular modes (Game Master, Combat Ops, HQC) run significant AI unit counts simultaneously. A Game Master scenario with 150 AI soldiers, vehicles and helicopters is CPU-intensive in a way that a 64-player pure-PvP server isn’t. The Enfusion engine is multi-threaded but AI pathfinding and state machines are demanding.

-maxFPS 60 is a critical launch flag

Without the -maxFPS 60 launch flag, the Arma Reforger dedicated server will consume all available CPU resources even when idle — driving clock speed unnecessarily high and burning through server time. Always confirm your managed host applies this flag by default. Most reputable hosts do, but it’s worth verifying.

Crossplay complicates server visibility

Arma Reforger supports PC and Xbox crossplay. PS5 mod support is pending Sony approval as of April 2026. If your unit has Xbox players, confirm your host’s server appears correctly in the Xbox server browser — some providers need specific configuration. Set crossPlatform: true and supportedPlatforms correctly in server.json.

🇬🇧 UK latency for coordinated ops

Arma Reforger’s coordinated team operations — radio comms, vehicle syncing, squad spawning — are highly sensitive to latency. A London UK server gives British players under 20ms. Frankfurt adds 35–60ms on top of simulation load. At those numbers, vehicle handoffs, heli landings and respawn timing feel noticeably different.

Ryzen 9 9950X DDR5 🇬🇧 London PC + Xbox + PS5 ✓ Steam Workshop mods Cloud backups · auto-updates 5-day refund 4.8★ (193 reviews)
💡 LOW.MS explicitly confirms PS5 and Xbox crossplay support alongside PC — making them one of a small group of UK providers ready for full cross-platform Reforger communities. Their Ryzen 9 9950X hardware is designed for gaming simulation workloads: the high single-core clock handles AI pathfinding and vehicle physics, while DDR5 memory bandwidth supports the rapid state updates that large Conflict HQC and Game Master sessions generate. Their cloud backup system is particularly valuable for Reforger, where server.json config and mod lists build up over time.

LOW.MS earns the top UK spot through hardware quality, crossplay breadth and a 5-day refund that gives you meaningful time to test across all the game modes Kolguyev introduced. The Ryzen 9 9950X’s high-clock performance handles AI-intensive Game Master scenarios — the biggest differentiator between a smooth mil-sim session and one where AI rubber-bands — better than the older Xeon hardware some competitors still run. London UK node keeps British players under 20ms, critical when coordinating vehicle convoys and air support in Conflict HQC.

Full mod support via the integrated Workshop, intuitive control panel with game mode switching, and a support team with a 99.9% uptime guarantee. At £8.12/mo entry, LOW.MS is among the most competitive UK-node options for Reforger.

Own hardware AMD Ryzen + Intel Xeon 🇬🇧 London PC + Xbox + PS5 ✓ Up to 128 player slots Full mod support <10 min support 4.8★ (1,515 reviews)
💡 Host Havoc is one of very few providers to confirm 128-player support for Arma Reforger alongside full Xbox and PS5 crossplay. Their own-hardware model prevents the CPU throttling that affects cloud providers during peak Conflict moments — when the HQC Commander deploys AI logistics, spawns multiple squads and bases get overrun simultaneously, CPU load spikes significantly. Own hardware means that spike doesn’t get throttled by an overcommitted resource pool.

For large UK mil-sim units running 60–128 player operations, Host Havoc’s combination of own hardware, London UK node and sub-10-minute support response is the strongest package available from our provider list. Their 24/7 support team is particularly valuable for Arma Reforger because server.json misconfigurations, BattlEye RCon issues and mod-related crashes happen regularly — and getting a quick human response at 10pm on a planned operation night matters.

Full FTP access for direct server.json editing and mod management, TCAdmin v2 panel, NVMe SSD storage, and automatic backups. 4.8★ from 1,515+ Trustpilot reviews with sub-10-minute average support response.

Arma Reforger maps — Everon, Arland & Kolguyev

Arma Reforger currently has three maps, each with different scale, AI demand and server requirements. The map you choose affects hosting costs — a Kolguyev HQC session with 64 players and full AI logistics demands significantly more CPU than a small Everon Game Master op with 16 players.

🌿 Everon
51km² · Original map

The classic from Operation Flashpoint, recreated 1:1 in the Enfusion engine. Green rolling hills, forests, towns and coastlines. Home to the vanilla Conflict mode and most community mods. Best starting map — most players and missions are designed around Everon. Medium CPU demand for standard scenarios.

Best for: all play styles · most mod support
🏝 Arland
~52km² · Island terrain

A smaller, more compact island map with varied coastal terrain. Good for faster-paced Conflict and Combat Ops. Less built-up than Everon, with more open sight lines across its terrain. Moderate CPU demand — similar to Everon but slightly lighter due to fewer urban areas.

Best for: faster ops · compact Conflict
🌋 Kolguyev (Update 1.6)
Volcanic · Most demanding

Added in Update 1.6 (October 2025). A rugged volcanic island with pine forests, rocky ridges, hot springs and abandoned coal industry sites. Home to the new Conflict HQC mode and the Operation Omega singleplayer campaign. Most CPU-intensive map — HQC’s AI logistics, base construction anywhere, and commander role add significant simulation demand vs classic Conflict.

⚠ Needs quality hardware — plan 16GB+ RAM for 64-player HQC
Kolguyev + Conflict HQC is the most hardware-demanding scenario in Arma Reforger. The new Commander role managing AI logistics units across the entire island, combined with dynamic base construction and 64–128 players, creates AI pathfinding loads that Everon Conflict doesn’t generate. If your unit plans to run large Kolguyev HQC sessions regularly, step up to 16–32GB RAM and confirm your host runs modern 5GHz+ hardware.

Conflict HQC, Game Master & Combat Ops — which mode for your server?

Arma Reforger’s game modes have very different server resource profiles. Choosing the right mode for your hardware tier prevents performance issues before they happen.

⚔️ Conflict HQC
Most demanding · 32–128 players

The flagship large-scale PvP mode, overhauled in Update 1.6 into Headquarters Commander mode. A Commander player manages AI logistics units, directs supply chains, and can build bases anywhere on the island. Other players earn ranks by completing objectives and teamwork. High CPU load — AI logistics units + dynamic base construction + large player counts creates the highest simulation demand of any Reforger mode.

RAM: 16–32GB for 64–128p · 5GHz+ CPU recommended
🎮 Game Master
Admin-driven · 8–64 players

A designated Game Master controls the scenario in real time — spawning AI units, vehicles, objectives and events from a top-down view. Popular for mil-sim units running structured operations. CPU load scales with what the GM deploys — a GM with 200 AI infantry, armour and air assets is very demanding; a GM running a small 20-player patrol mission is moderate. Plan hardware for your unit’s typical GM op scale.

RAM: 8–16GB · Scale hardware to max AI count
🤖 Combat Ops
PvE cooperative · 4–32 players

Cooperative AI-versus-players missions with predefined objectives. Players work together to complete scenarios against AI opposition. Also available on Kolguyev as of Update 1.6. Most predictable resource load — AI count is bounded by the scenario, making hardware planning straightforward. Good starting mode for new server owners who want PvE without a Game Master.

RAM: 8GB sufficient · Most beginner-friendly
💡 Workshop scenarios expand all three modes significantly. Community-made scenarios can run any game mode with custom AI loadouts, objectives and mechanics. Popular workshop scenarios include total conversion campaigns, Cold War era operations on custom maps, and training frameworks for mil-sim units. Mods + Workshop scenarios combined can push resource requirements above vanilla equivalents — always test a new scenario with a small group before running it at full player count.

Arma Reforger server specs — RAM & CPU by scenario type

Unlike Space Engineers (single-threaded), Reforger’s Enfusion engine is multi-threaded — cores matter alongside clock speed. However, AI pathfinding and state machine updates still benefit disproportionately from high single-core performance. The optimal server spec depends heavily on what game mode and AI count you’re running, not just player count.

Heavy modded server (total conversion)32–6416GB24–32GBHigh clock · 8+ cores
🔴 Always use -maxFPS 60

Without this launch flag, the server binary runs uncapped and consumes all available CPU even when idle. Most managed hosts apply it by default — verify before your first session. Running without it on shared hosting can trigger throttling from other customers’ servers.

✅ NVMe SSD for mod loading

Reforger servers download and verify mods at startup. A heavy modpack on SATA SSD can take several minutes to load; on NVMe it’s seconds. Important for managed servers with daily restarts or frequent update cycles.

✅ Multi-core helps (unlike SE1)

Enfusion is multi-threaded — AI processing, physics and network operations can distribute across cores. Both clock speed and core count matter. A Ryzen 9 9950X (16-core, 5GHz+) is close to ideal. Don’t pick a 4-core entry server for 64-player HQC.

⚠ No GPU required

Reforger dedicated servers are headless — no rendering, no GPU needed. All hosting plans for managed game servers are CPU + RAM only. If a provider mentions GPU for game hosting, that’s marketing, not a technical requirement for server operation.

Required server ports

UDP 2001 — Game port + server browser query (primary)
UDP 17777 — BattlEye RCon (optional, for admin tools)
Arma Reforger uses a single primary port (UDP 2001) for both game traffic and server browser registration. Configure gameHostBindPort: 2001 and gameHostRegisterPort: 2001 in server.json. Managed hosts configure these automatically.

server.json — Arma Reforger’s configuration file explained

Unlike most older Arma titles, Reforger uses a clean JSON config file — server.json (or config.json depending on setup). Here’s a complete working example with the settings that matter most for a UK community server.

// server.json — community server template
{
  “dedicatedServerId”: “”,
  “gameHostBindAddress”: “0.0.0.0”,
  “gameHostBindPort”: 2001,
  “gameHostRegisterBindAddress”: “”, // Your server’s public IP
  “gameHostRegisterPort”: 2001,
  “adminPassword”: “changethis!”, // Change before launch
  “game”: {
    “name”: “UK Mil-Sim Server”,
    “password”: “”, // Blank = public
    “scenarioId”: “{ECC61978EDCC2B5A}Missions/23_Campaign.conf”, // Conflict
    “maxPlayers”: 64,
    “visible”: true, // Show in server browser
    “crossPlatform”: false, // true = allow Xbox players
    “supportedPlatforms”: [“PLATFORM_PC”],
    “gameProperties”: {
      “serverMaxViewDistance”: 2500, // Lower = better perf
      “networkViewDistance”: 1000, // Network sync range
      “disableThirdPerson”: false,
      “fastValidation”: true
    }
  },
  “mods”: [] // Add mod objects here
}
serverMaxViewDistance

Controls the maximum draw distance on the server. Lower values (2000–2500) reduce CPU and network load. The default 3000m is appropriate for open operations but increases what the server must track and sync. On Kolguyev HQC with 64+ players, reducing to 2000 can noticeably improve performance.

networkViewDistance

Defines the radius within which the server syncs entity states to each client. Lower values (800–1000m) reduce bandwidth and CPU load on busy servers. Set too low and players will see vehicles appearing suddenly — find a balance for your typical engagement range.

crossPlatform + supportedPlatforms

To allow Xbox players, set crossPlatform: true and add "PLATFORM_XBL" to supportedPlatforms. Your server then appears in both the PC and Xbox server browsers. PS5 support works similarly when Bohemia finalises it — watch for Sony approval updates.

scenarioId

The GUID of the scenario to run. Official scenario IDs for Conflict (Everon and Kolguyev), Game Master, and Combat Ops are in Bohemia’s documentation. Workshop scenario IDs come from the mod’s Workshop page. Change this to switch maps and modes.

Never modify existing BattlEye config entries — only append new settings. Editing or removing the GameID or MasterPort lines from BEServer_x64.cfg causes “Missing GameID/MasterPort” errors that block players from connecting. When adding RCon settings, add new lines at the end of the file only.

Mods & Workshop on Arma Reforger servers

Arma Reforger has a Steam Workshop with an integrated mod browser — players download mods automatically when connecting to a modded server. Server-side mod configuration goes in the "mods" array of server.json. Each mod entry needs its modId (from the Workshop URL) and optionally a version.

// Mods array in server.json
“mods”: [
  {
    “modId”: “596350488E06A71B”, // From Workshop URL
    “name”: “Community Factions Project”
  },
  {
    “modId”: “ANOTHER_MOD_ID”,
    “name”: “Your Mod Name”
  }
]
Community Factions Project (CFP)

The most popular Reforger mod — adds dozens of factions, weapons, vehicles and equipment from various Cold War era nations. Massively expands Game Master and Workshop scenarios. Widely used by mil-sim units. High content volume — verify mod compatibility before stacking with other faction mods.

GRAD Trenches

Adds the ability to dig trenches and foxholes in Reforger’s terrain. Essential for defensive scenario design and mil-sim realism. Server-side with automatic client download. Lightweight with minimal performance impact relative to the gameplay value added.

Overthrow (Everon scenario)

A persistent sandbox scenario where players fight an ongoing guerrilla conflict on Everon. Popular persistent-world community server mode. Resource requirements scale with how many players are active and how many towns have been liberated. A good alternative to pure Conflict for PvE-focused communities.

⚠ PS5 mod support

As of April 2026, PS5 mod support is pending Sony approval. PS5 players can currently join PC and Xbox crossplay servers but cannot use mods. If your server runs mods, PS5 players will not be able to connect until Bohemia finalises the Sony agreement. Monitor the official Reforger roadmap for updates.

Mods download automatically for connecting players. When a player joins your modded Reforger server, the game client downloads all required mods directly before they spawn. There’s no manual mod installation step for players. This makes Reforger’s mod UX significantly smoother than Arma 3’s older system.

PC, Xbox & PS5 crossplay on Arma Reforger servers

Arma Reforger is one of the few serious mil-sim titles with genuine PC + Xbox crossplay. This expands the potential audience for your server significantly — but it introduces configuration considerations that purely PC servers don’t need to think about.

💻 PC (Steam)
  • Full mod support (Workshop)
  • Appears in Steam server browser
  • Admin tools fully functional
  • Full config access via server.json
  • Stable branch + Experimental branch
🎮 Xbox (Series X|S)
  • Crossplay with PC confirmed ✅
  • Appears in Xbox server browser
  • Mod support: yes (same as PC)
  • Requires crossPlatform: true in config
  • Same update cadence as PC
🎮 PS5 — pending
  • Can join PC + Xbox servers ✅
  • Mod support: pending Sony approval
  • PS5 players cannot use mods yet

Arma Reforger server hosting — frequently asked questions

Arma Reforger supports up to 128 players on a dedicated server, though official Bohemia Interactive servers typically cap at 64. Running 128 players requires substantial hardware — 32–64GB RAM and a high-core-count 5GHz+ CPU. In practice, most community servers run at 32–64 players for the best performance balance. The Kolguyev Conflict HQC mode at 64+ players is significantly more demanding than smaller vanilla sessions, so match your player cap to your hardware tier.
Minimum 8GB for vanilla Combat Ops with 4–16 players. For Everon Conflict at 32–64 players, 12–16GB. For Kolguyev Conflict HQC at 64 players (with AI logistics and base construction), 16–24GB. For Game Master scenarios with large AI counts (100–200+ units), budget 16–24GB plus overhead. For 128-player operations, 32–64GB is the community recommendation. The Enfusion engine is more memory-efficient than Arma 3’s RV engine, but heavy mods, large AI counts and persistent workshop scenarios accumulate RAM usage over long sessions.
Xbox crossplay is fully supported — set crossPlatform: true and add "PLATFORM_XBL" to your supportedPlatforms array in server.json. Your server then appears in both the PC Steam browser and the Xbox in-game server browser. PS5 players can join PC and Xbox servers in vanilla mode, but PS5 mod support is pending Sony’s approval as of April 2026. Once that approval is confirmed, PS5 players will be able to use mods on crossplay servers. If your server runs mods, PS5 players currently cannot connect.
The Arma Reforger dedicated server binary, without a frame rate cap, will run its simulation loop as fast as the hardware allows — consuming 100% of available CPU even when player activity is low. The -maxFPS 60 launch flag caps the simulation at 60 ticks per second, which is the maximum supported by the game logic and more than sufficient for stable gameplay. Without it on shared hosting, your server consumes server resources unnecessarily, triggering throttling from the host. Most reputable managed hosts (LOW.MS, Host Havoc, GTX Gaming) apply this flag automatically — but verify it in the launch parameters section of your control panel.
As of April 2026, Arma Reforger has three official maps: Everon (51km², the original Cold War Assault island recreated in Enfusion — green valleys, forests and towns), Arland (a smaller compact island focused on faster-paced combat), and Kolguyev (added in Update 1.6, October 2025 — a volcanic island with pine forests, rocky ridges, hot springs and abandoned industrial sites, home to the new Conflict HQC mode and Operation Omega campaign). The Steam Workshop also has numerous community-made maps available as mods. Kolguyev is the most CPU-demanding official map.
Mods are configured in the "mods" array of your server.json file. Each mod needs its modId (found in the Steam Workshop page URL) and an optional name. When the server starts, it downloads any missing mods automatically. When a player connects, their Reforger client automatically downloads the server’s mod list before spawning — there’s no manual mod installation step for players. This is significantly smoother than Arma 3’s mod management. PC and Xbox players can use mods; PS5 mod support is pending Sony approval as of April 2026.
Arma Reforger uses UDP 2001 as its primary port for both game traffic and server browser registration. Configure gameHostBindPort: 2001 and gameHostRegisterPort: 2001 in server.json. Additionally, if you want to use BattlEye RCon for admin tools, UDP 17777 is the default RCon port (configurable in BEServer_x64.cfg — add RConPort 17777 at the end of the file). Managed hosts configure the main port automatically; you only need to manually set the RCon port if you’re using external admin tools like TADST or BE-RCON.
Conflict HQC (Headquarters Commander) is the completely reworked Conflict mode introduced in Arma Reforger Update 1.6 (October 2025). In classic Conflict, both factions fight to capture predefined points across the island. In HQC, one player per faction takes on the Commander role with a top-down strategic view — assigning tasks to player squads, managing AI logistics units that automatically transport supplies from ports and warehouses to the front, and constructing bases anywhere on the island (not just predefined positions). Players earn ranks for contributions, completing objectives and supporting the Commander. This adds a command-and-control layer that makes HQC significantly more complex — and significantly more CPU-intensive on the server — than classic Conflict.
Arma Reforger is built on the Enfusion engine, which is multi-threaded and significantly more efficient than Arma 3’s RV engine. This means Reforger servers generally require less RAM for the same player count and benefit from modern multi-core CPUs in a way Arma 3 didn’t. Mod management is also dramatically improved — players auto-download mods on connection versus Arma 3’s manual mod installation. However, Reforger’s Game Master AI scenarios can still be very demanding, and the Kolguyev HQC mode represents a new level of server load that Arma 3 never had in a single mode. For UK communities considering whether to switch: Reforger is the active development platform leading to Arma 4, Arma 3 is in maintenance mode. Most UK mil-sim units are transitioning to Reforger.

I'm an avid gamer from Sweden with a lot of time spent in England in the last 5 years who loves survival games — ARK, Palworld, Valheim, Sons of the Forest, V Rising and plenty of WoW and Dota 2 on the side. I created this site to help other gamers find the best server hosting without wasting money on laggy providers.

By day I work in SEO and Google Ads, helping businesses rank and convert. I've been hosting game servers since the Minecraft + Hamachi LAN days and have learned the hard way what separates a good host from a bad one. Every ranking on this site is based on real testing and price-to-performance — no paid placements.
