Privacy & Cookie Policy
This policy explains what personal data GameServerHosting.co.uk collects when you read the site, which cookies it uses, why, and what you can do about it. It is written for UK readers under the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
The short version
- You do not need an account, and we never ask for payment details. You buy hosting on the provider’s own website, not here.
- We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and clicks, but only if you accept analytics cookies in the cookie banner.
- If you click a link to a hosting provider, you leave this site and that provider’s own privacy and cookie policy applies.
- If you email us, we use your message only to reply.

1. Who we are
GameServerHosting.co.uk is an independent site that compares game server hosting providers. The site is run by its editor, Linus Pierre, who is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
For any privacy question or request, email gameserverhostinguk@gmail.com. You can also use our contact page.
2. What we collect
Analytics (only with your consent)
If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 records how the site is used: pages viewed, roughly where in the world visits come from, the type of device and browser, how you arrived (for example from a search engine) and which outbound links to hosting providers are clicked. We use this to see which guides and comparisons are useful and which need work. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses, and we do not use it to identify individual visitors.
Until you make a choice, Google’s consent mode is set to “denied” for UK and EEA visitors, so analytics cookies are not set and the tag only sends limited, cookieless signals that do not identify you.
Emails you send us
The site has no contact form, comment section, newsletter or user accounts. If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We use it only to answer you and to fix anything you report, such as an out-of-date price.
Technical data and server logs
Like every website, the servers that deliver this site automatically process technical data needed to send pages to your browser and keep the site secure. This includes your IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page and the time of the request. This data is recorded in standard server logs kept by our web hosting provider and by the content delivery network described below. We do not use these logs to build profiles of visitors.
What we do not collect
We do not sell personal data, show adverts on the site, or use session-recording tools. We do not knowingly collect data from children; the site is not aimed at children under 13.
3. Cookies we use
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Under PECR we only set cookies that are not strictly necessary if you agree. When you first visit, a cookie banner lets you accept, reject or customise categories. You can change your mind at any time:
| Name | Set by | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
cookieyes-consent | This site (CookieYes) | Necessary | Remembers your cookie choices so the banner does not appear on every page. | 1 year |
nitroCachedPage | This site (NitroPack) | Necessary | Technical marker used by our page-speed service to indicate whether a cached copy of the page was served. Contains no personal information. | Session |
__cf_bm | NitroPack’s delivery network (Cloudflare), on nitrocdn.com and getnitropack.com | Necessary | Security cookie that helps the delivery network tell real visitors from automated bots. Not used for tracking. | 30 minutes |
wpEmojiSettingsSupports | This site (WordPress) | Necessary | Browser session storage, not a cookie. Records whether your browser can display emoji, so WordPress does not need to check again. | Session |
_ga | Google Analytics | Analytics | Distinguishes one browser from another so visits can be counted. Only set after you accept analytics cookies. | 2 years |
_ga_DCHYSKPNET | Google Analytics | Analytics | Keeps track of the current visit for our Google Analytics 4 property. Only set after you accept analytics cookies. | 2 years |
Rejecting analytics cookies does not affect how the site works. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser settings; if you block all cookies, the banner will ask for your choice on each visit.
4. Third-party services
These services help us run the site. Each processes a limited amount of data, such as your IP address, to do its job:
- Google Analytics 4 (Google), loaded through Google Site Kit, for visit statistics as described above. Only with your consent.
- CookieYes, which runs the cookie banner and records your consent choice, so we can show that consent was given.
- NitroPack, a page-speed and content delivery network that serves optimised copies of our pages, images and files from its servers.
- Google Fonts. Most fonts are stored on our own server, but some pages load the Inter typeface from Google’s font servers. Your browser then sends your IP address to Google so the font can be delivered. Google Fonts does not set cookies.
- Our web hosting provider, which stores the site and keeps the server logs described above.
- Gmail (Google), which handles our email if you write to us.
5. Affiliate links and host websites
Some links to hosting providers are affiliate links. When you click one, you go to the provider’s website, sometimes through a short redirect link on our own domain. From that point you are on the provider’s site, and its own privacy and cookie policy applies.
The provider or its affiliate network may set its own tracking cookies, so that a purchase can be credited to this site. These cookies are set by the provider, not by us, and how long they last is up to the provider. We do not receive your name, email address or payment details. At most, the provider reports to us that a sale was referred and the commission due. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics also records that an outbound link was clicked, without identifying you. Read more in our affiliate disclosure.
6. Legal bases
- Consent for analytics cookies and Google Analytics. You can withdraw consent at any time with the cookie settings button above.
- Legitimate interests for server logs, security, the content delivery network, loading fonts, and recording your cookie choice: running a fast, secure website and being able to prove consent. Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from consent under PECR.
- Legitimate interests for replying to emails you send us.
7. How long we keep data
- Analytics: event data is kept for the retention period set in our Google Analytics account, which is never more than 14 months. After that, only aggregated reports remain.
- Cookie consent: your choice is kept in your browser for up to 1 year, then the banner asks again.
- Emails: kept only as long as needed to deal with your message and any follow-up, then deleted.
- Server logs: kept for a short period by our hosting and delivery providers under their standard log retention, for security and troubleshooting.
8. Transfers outside the UK
Some of the services above, including Google, may process data outside the UK, for example in the European Economic Area or the United States. Where that happens, the transfer relies on UK adequacy regulations (including the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework) or on approved contract terms such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data deleted;
- restrict or object to how we use your data, including processing based on legitimate interests;
- receive your data in a portable format, where that applies;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it.
To use any of these rights, email gameserverhostinguk@gmail.com. We will reply within one month. Because analytics data is pseudonymous and we cannot link it to your name, we may need details such as your Google Analytics client ID to find it.
10. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how your data has been handled, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
11. Changes to this policy
If we add or remove a tool that handles personal data, or change how we use cookies, we will update this page and the “last updated” date at the top.
