Modrinth Hosting Review

Modrinth Hosting is one of the most important new Minecraft hosts to review because it is not simply another hosting company with a mod installer bolted on. The hosting product lives inside the same Modrinth ecosystem players already use for mods and modpacks, so installing content, managing a server and sharing a custom modrinth.gg address can happen in one place. The underlying specification is also serious: AMD Ryzen 7950X or 9950X-equivalent CPUs, DDR5, CPU burst capacity, SFTP and 15 off-site backups. The catches are just as important. It is Minecraft Java only, preset plans were showing as out of stock during our audit, and Modrinth’s general Trustpilot profile is unusually mixed, including hosting-specific complaints about support and server issues.

Modrinth Hosting is strategically different from most providers in this library. Modrinth already owns a major part of the Minecraft mod-discovery workflow, and the server product is designed around that same content graph. If a modpack exists on Modrinth, the hosting interface can turn it into a server without sending the buyer into a separate control panel, third-party installer or manual upload flow. That removes one of the most common pain points in modded Minecraft hosting: keeping client and server content aligned.

This focus also means the product is narrow. Modrinth is not where we would send somebody shopping for Rust, ARK, Valheim or a broad multi-game account. It is a Minecraft Java product built around the ecosystem Modrinth already controls. For topical authority that makes it unusually important, but for an individual buyer it means the value depends heavily on whether that integration is something you will actually use.

The current hosting page publishes unusually useful hardware information. Modrinth says servers use AMD Ryzen 7950X or 9950X-equivalent CPUs with DDR5 memory. Plans expose shared CPU allocations plus temporary burst threads under heavy load, with the stated goal of protecting TPS during spikes. This is a much more meaningful description than the generic “high performance CPU” wording used by many hosts.

We still treat those performance statements as provider claims. We did not run Spark profiles or sustained TPS tests. The useful part is that Modrinth tells buyers what class of silicon to expect and explains how burst capacity works. DDoS protection is included, with the provider claiming up to 17 Tbps capacity in some locations. Storage scales with plan size, and SFTP is included for users who want direct file access rather than staying entirely inside the web interface.

This is where Modrinth earns most of its score. The hosting interface is built into Modrinth itself, with mod and modpack installation, console access, server properties, file management and networking controls in the same ecosystem. Vanilla, Fabric, Forge, Quilt, NeoForge, Paper and Purpur are supported depending on Minecraft version. A custom modrinth.gg address is included, and users can attach their own domain and reserve extra ports for mods that require them.

For a player who already assembles packs in the Modrinth app, this is a cleaner mental model than “download pack, find matching server files, upload to Pterodactyl, fix Java version, then troubleshoot dependencies.” It does not eliminate every modded-server problem, but it removes a surprising amount of setup friction. The trade-off is that a specialist interface can be less flexible than a mature generic panel in edge cases, and external reviews have specifically raised missing or limited sub-user controls in past versions. We would verify collaboration features if several admins need granular permissions.

Every current Modrinth Hosting server includes 15 backups stored off-site. That is a strong baseline because the backups are separated from the game node rather than merely occupying another folder on the same machine. The product also gives direct file access through both browser tools and SFTP, so keeping an independent local copy is straightforward.

We still recommend exporting important worlds periodically. No hosted backup system should be treated as the only copy of a long-running community world. The difference here is that Modrinth is giving buyers a sensible disaster-recovery starting point rather than making backups an optional upsell.

At the time of our audit, the public page showed Small at $10 per month when billed quarterly for 4GB RAM, Medium at $15 for 6GB and Large at $20 for 8GB. Quarterly billing carries the advertised saving, while a custom-plan builder starts at $5 per month. The preset Small, Medium and Large cards were all marked out of stock during the check, which matters more than any theoretical value score. A good plan that cannot currently be ordered is not useful to a buyer.

There was also a limited free 3GB US trial offer visible on the page. We would not treat promotional availability as permanent. On pure price per GB, Modrinth is not the cheapest host in our library. The premium is justified by the native ecosystem integration, modern hardware disclosure and off-site backup package rather than raw RAM quantity.

Modrinth currently offers regions across North America, Europe, Southeast Asia and Australia. The provider does not publish a simple London-specific promise on the main hosting page, so we would not market it as a UK-native or guaranteed London host. UK buyers should choose the available European region and confirm the location at checkout. Region changes are possible through support rather than presented as an instant self-service switch.

That makes Modrinth perfectly viable for British players, but less locally transparent than providers that explicitly sell London and expose a public UK test endpoint.

The largest reason this review stops at 8.5 is not the hosting feature list, it is confidence around support consistency. Modrinth’s Trustpilot profile covers the wider Modrinth platform rather than hosting alone, so it cannot be treated as a clean hosting satisfaction score. Even so, the profile was around 2.9/5 with 81 reviews during our audit, and several recent complaints were directly about server hosting, slow support responses or provisioning issues. There are positive hosting experiences too, so the signal is mixed rather than universally bad.

This is exactly the type of reputation data that needs context. Modrinth has a much larger user base than the review count suggests, and many reviews concern the launcher or creator platform rather than servers. We therefore do not translate 2.9/5 directly into a hosting score. We do, however, treat repeated hosting-specific support complaints as a real catch when comparing Modrinth with specialist providers that have years of hosting-only support history.

Modrinth’s current refund documentation is clearer than many hosts. A refund requested within 24 hours of the transaction is eligible for a full refund on request. After 24 hours, partial refunds may be available if the server was unused during the billing cycle or if verified Modrinth hardware/software issues made it inaccessible. The current Terms of Use were updated in August 2026, which is reassuring from a policy-maintenance perspective.

The main practical point is that this is not a broad seven-day “try anything and refund it” policy. The strongest unconditional window is 24 hours, after which the circumstances matter.
