Our top Team Fortress 2 hosting picks
Kinetic is the best all-round buy. Gaming Deluxe is the strongest UK-native TF2 package, DatHost is the easiest SourceMod-first option, and GTX remains a proven UK specialist with a cheap public starting price.

Visit →Quick verdict
For most groups we would buy Kinetic’s 4GB plan first. It is cheap, gives TF2 far more memory than a normal vanilla server needs, exposes proper file and Workshop controls and runs on high-clock modern hardware. Gaming Deluxe is the more TF2-specific UK choice because its product page explicitly includes SourceMod and Fast Downloads. DatHost is excellent if you want one-click SourceMod plus a huge 16GB allocation, but its per-slot model becomes less attractive at 24 players.
Team Fortress 2 hosting providers compared
GBP is shown first and USD in brackets. We use the current public plan that best represents each host. A cheap TF2 package is only useful if the panel still gives you the plugin, file and map controls a real community server needs.

Prices checked 18 August 2026. Currency conversion uses $1 = £0.739165 and €1 = £0.85534. DatHost is shown at 12 slots because it prices TF2 at €0.75 per slot. Gaming Deluxe has conflicting catalogue displays, but its TF2-specific page and live billing store both show £4.50, which is the figure used here.
How we tested and ranked TF2 hosting
TF2 is cheap to run, so a raw RAM-per-pound ranking is not very useful. We checked the live product or order page, the plan we would actually buy, server location, plugin and file controls, backups, refund terms and the parts of the panel that matter for Source community servers. Where we have previous hands-on experience with a provider’s panel or support, we use that to judge workflow. Provider-specific hardware, locations and feature claims remain identified as provider-verified specifications rather than fake benchmark results.
SourceMod, Metamod:Source, plugins, custom maps, Workshop support, file access and FastDL handling matter more than excess RAM.
London is ideal for a British player base. Frankfurt and nearby Europe remain completely viable for most community servers.
We compare the package a normal server owner can actually order today and flag slot-based or under-documented pricing models.
Backups, refund windows and access to a human matter when a plugin update or custom map breaks a live server.
One technical correction from our old guide
We no longer reward hosts for advertising 100 or 102 tick TF2. The current Source Dedicated Server documentation states that TF2’s tickrate cannot be altered on modern builds. High-clock hardware still matters for stable server work and plugins, but a host claiming a special 100-tick TF2 plan is not giving you a normal current-game advantage.
All 8 TF2 hosts reviewed in depth
Every provider in the comparison table gets a full review below. The ranking is specific to Team Fortress 2, not our general provider order.
Kinetic Hosting
no host slot cap
Kinetic is the easiest #1 to justify because TF2 happens to fit its entry package almost perfectly. Four gigabytes is already generous for a normal vanilla or lightly modded TF2 server, while the provider exposes high-clock hardware up to a Ryzen 9 9950X at 5.7GHz. That is a better match for Source-era server workloads than paying for a huge RAM allocation you will never touch.
The panel side is what makes the price feel less like a budget compromise. Kinetic exposes Workshop support, full file access, SFTP, live console controls, automatic updates, five backup slots and game swapping. In our broader testing of Kinetic, the appeal has consistently been that you still get proper admin control instead of a stripped-down cheap tier. The 7-day refund also gives you enough time to load your plugins and maps before deciding whether the server is staying.
- ✓ £3.69 ($4.99) for 4GB is excellent TF2 value
- ✓ High-clock Ryzen hardware and NVMe storage
- ✓ Workshop, SFTP, backups and full file access
- ✓ 7-day no-questions refund
- ✗ TF2 page does not advertise a dedicated one-click SourceMod installer
- ✗ Advanced plugin work still expects you to use the file tools
Best for: almost any private or public TF2 community that wants strong hardware and proper admin access at a very low monthly price.
Gaming Deluxe
native GBP billing
Gaming Deluxe is the most TF2-specific UK offer we found at this price. Its dedicated TF2 page explicitly lists SourceMod, Fast Downloads, MySQL, full FTP access, DDoS protection, automatic updates and 24/7 support. London is part of its location network, and the company bills in pounds, so there is very little ambiguity for a UK community owner.
What we like here is that the provider is solving old Source-server chores rather than just listing generic game-hosting features. Fast Downloads and SourceMod are the things a custom-map or plugin-heavy TF2 server actually cares about. The one caveat is price presentation: Gaming Deluxe’s broad game catalogue currently shows £8 for TF2, while the TF2-specific page and billing store show £4.50. We use the specific live product figure but would still confirm the checkout total before paying.
- ✓ London location and native GBP billing
- ✓ SourceMod and Fast Downloads explicitly included
- ✓ Full FTP, MySQL, DDoS and auto updates
- ✓ Very competitive TF2-specific price
- ✗ Gaming Deluxe’s general catalogue shows a conflicting higher starting figure
- ✗ Exact RAM and slot allocation is less transparent before checkout
Best for: UK communities that want London, GBP billing and TF2-specific SourceMod/FastDL features without doing everything manually.
DatHost
16GB RAM included
The old version of our TF2 guide said DatHost did not support the game. That is now plainly wrong. DatHost has a dedicated TF2 product with a one-click SourceMod installer, London availability, automatic backups, DDoS protection, immediate relocation and a 7-day refund.
The oddity is the resource model. Every plan gets 16GB DDR5 and Ryzen 9 7950X-class or EPYC hardware, then pricing scales at €0.75 per slot. For a 12-player competitive or private server, £7.70 ($10.41) is reasonable. At 24 slots the same model is roughly £15.40 ($20.83), so DatHost becomes a premium convenience choice rather than a value winner. If one-click SourceMod and a clean panel matter more than the absolute lowest cost, we still like it a lot.
- ✓ SourceMod one-click installer
- ✓ London plus a broad European network
- ✓ 16GB DDR5 with no need to size RAM
- ✓ 7-day refund, backups and instant relocation
- ✗ Per-slot pricing gets expensive at 24 to 32 players
- ✗ 16GB is far more RAM than most TF2 servers need
Best for: owners who want a very easy SourceMod-first setup and do not mind paying more as player capacity grows.
GTX Gaming
higher config varies
GTX Gaming has been one of the names we associate with Source hosting for years, and the current billing store still exposes a dedicated Team Fortress 2 product at £5 per month. That is enough to keep it in our top four, especially for UK buyers who prefer a long-running British game-hosting company and native GBP billing.
Our previous TF2 research found the strongest part of GTX to be the amount of TF2-specific panel work around SourceMod, Metamod and custom content. We are more conservative in this rebuild because the current public store does not expose the higher configuration ladder or all those TF2-specific options before checkout. We still rate the provider’s experience highly, but Kinetic and DatHost are now more transparent about the live hardware or package you are buying.
- ✓ Dedicated TF2 product still available at £5/month
- ✓ Established UK game-hosting specialist
- ✓ Native GBP billing
- ✓ Strong historical SourceMod and custom-content workflow
- ✗ Current public store exposes limited resource detail
- ✗ Higher configuration pricing is not transparent before ordering
Best for: UK TF2 communities that value a long-established specialist and are comfortable confirming the exact configuration at checkout.
GGServers
unlimited player slots
GGServers’ dedicated TF2 page is refreshingly easy to understand. The Small plan gives 2GB for $6, Medium gives 4GB for $12, and every tier advertises unlimited player slots, unmetered SSD and DDoS protection. For a normal 24-player community server, 2GB is a realistic starting point rather than a fake teaser allocation.
The trade-off is that the hardware is described more generically than Kinetic or DatHost, and the public page talks about North America or Europe rather than giving the same London specificity we get from Gaming Deluxe. The built-in mod installer and 24/7 live chat make it approachable, though, and the unlimited-slot model is appealing if you dislike paying per player.
- ✓ 2GB at £4.43 ($6.00) is a sensible entry tier
- ✓ Unlimited player slots
- ✓ Mod installer, DDoS and unmetered SSD
- ✓ 24/7 live chat support
- ✗ CPU details are less transparent
- ✗ European location is less specific than a confirmed London node
Best for: communities that want a simple RAM-based package with unlimited slots and built-in mod tooling.
AleForge
Frankfurt closest UK location
AleForge has the cheapest fully specified TF2 package in this shortlist. The $3.99 Standard plan gives 2GB RAM, 60GB NVMe storage, four user backups and mod support. For an older game like TF2, that is enough capacity for a surprisingly capable private or small public server.
The reason it sits sixth rather than fighting Kinetic for first is location and CPU positioning. Frankfurt is the closest current European location to the UK, and AleForge separates its Standard and Premium CPU classes more aggressively than Kinetic. UK players should still get perfectly usable latency to Frankfurt, but a London node is preferable for a competitive or UK-only community. We like AleForge most when the budget is strict and the server is casual.
- ✓ Cheapest fully specified package in our table
- ✓ 2GB RAM, NVMe and four backups
- ✓ Full config access and mod support
- ✓ Frankfurt gives a viable nearby EU location
- ✗ No UK or London location listed
- ✗ Faster CPU class costs more on Premium plans
Best for: cheap casual TF2 hosting where Frankfurt latency is acceptable and you want transparent RAM and storage allocations.
Sparked Host
exact TF2 allocation not exposed
Sparked Host is interesting because its Apollo panel is unusually relevant to TF2. The provider advertises one-click server plugins, Steam Workshop addons, FastDL sync and game-specific settings, and its knowledge base still contains TF2-specific guides for editing tags and server.cfg. That is better evidence of day-to-day Source-server support than a generic “mod compatible” badge.
The reason we keep it lower is pricing transparency. The current game catalogue shows TF2 starting at $4.40, but does not publicly normalize the exact TF2 RAM, CPU and slot package the way Kinetic, GGServers or Shockbyte do. We are happy to rank the panel workflow, but we are not going to invent a resource allocation just to make the table look cleaner.
- ✓ Very cheap public starting price
- ✓ Apollo panel supports plugins, Workshop and FastDL sync
- ✓ TF2-specific help documentation exists
- ✓ Strong option for owners who value panel automation
- ✗ Exact TF2 allocation is not publicly normalized
- ✗ Location and resource comparison requires more checkout verification
Best for: budget-conscious owners who want plugin and FastDL tooling in the panel and are willing to verify the exact package before checkout.
Shockbyte
24 players / 3GB
Shockbyte is the most expensive host in this shortlist at the 24-player level, but at least the product is explicit about what you get. The Soldier plan is 24 players and 3GB RAM for $14.99, with Workshop, MetaMod, SourceMod, custom maps, full FTP, backups, DDoS protection and a 72-hour self-serve refund.
That makes Shockbyte a straightforward option if you want the classic 24-player community-server size without working out RAM or slots separately. We rank it last mainly because TF2 is light enough that the premium is hard to justify. Kinetic, Gaming Deluxe and GGServers all give us a more attractive price-to-control ratio. Shockbyte is not a bad TF2 host, just a comparatively expensive one.
- ✓ Clear 24-player / 3GB package
- ✓ SourceMod and MetaMod explicitly supported
- ✓ Workshop, custom maps, FTP and backups
- ✓ 72-hour self-serve refund
- ✗ £11.08 ($14.99) is expensive for TF2
- ✗ Better value exists for both UK location and raw resources
Best for: buyers who want a clearly defined 24-player managed plan with SourceMod and MetaMod explicitly included.
Why SourceMod support matters more than extra RAM
A vanilla TF2 server is easy to host. A good community server usually depends on SourceMod for administration, map voting, class limits, custom game modes, moderation and hundreds of community plugins. SourceMod itself requires Metamod:Source, so the clean installation order is Metamod first, then SourceMod, then your individual plugins.
For 2026, AlliedModders lists current stable Metamod:Source and SourceMod builds as supported for Team Fortress 2. This is why we give extra credit to hosts with one-click installers or full file access instead of treating “mod support” as a vague marketing feature.
GSLT: useful, but not a performance feature
A Game Server Login Token ties a dedicated server account to your Steam account. For TF2, use the base-game App ID 440 when creating the token. The token is useful for persistent server identity and favourites, especially if your IP or hosting provider changes. It should be treated as an identity and account-management feature, not something that improves ping or server FPS.
Keep the token private
Steam explicitly warns not to distribute GSLTs to third parties. Use the host’s secure token field or your own server configuration, and delete/regenerate a token if it has been exposed.
How much RAM does a TF2 server need?
TF2 remains light compared with modern survival games. The practical reason to buy more RAM is plugin and custom-content headroom, not because the base game suddenly needs 16GB. CPU consistency and a nearby location matter more once the basic memory requirement is covered.
| Server type | Typical players | RAM we would target | What matters most |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private vanilla | 6 to 12 | 1 to 2GB | Low price and nearby node |
| Normal community | 12 to 24 | 2 to 4GB | SourceMod, file access, backups |
| Plugin-heavy / custom maps | 24 to 32 | 4GB+ | CPU stability, FastDL, backups |
| Multiple instances | Varies | 8GB+ | Split servers and resource control |
Best TF2 host for your server type
Kinetic Hosting
4GB, high-clock Ryzen and proper admin tools from £3.69 ($4.99).
Gaming Deluxe
London, GBP billing, SourceMod and Fast Downloads from £4.50 ($6.09).
DatHost
One-click SourceMod, London and 16GB DDR5 with slot-based pricing.
AleForge
2GB plus NVMe and backups for £2.95 ($3.99), with Frankfurt as the closest node.
Should you self-host a TF2 server?
TF2 is one of the more realistic games to self-host because the dedicated server is lightweight and well documented. SteamCMD uses dedicated-server App ID 232250, and a spare modern PC can run a private server without much drama if your upload speed and router configuration are good enough.
We would still rent for a public community. A managed host removes the need to keep a home machine online, gives you DDoS protection, a stable public IP, backups and easier SourceMod or custom-map management. At £3 to £5 per month for several of the hosts above, the convenience gap is much bigger than the cost gap.
